Color Correction
Color correction for Marvel Rivals
Vibrance, contrast, midtones and black level, applied over the finished frame by ReShade. The preview below is not a picture of the effect. It is the effect, running in your browser on the same shader the game runs.
The preview above runs the same shader body as the .fx ReShade loads in the game, statement for statement. It is not an approximation of the effect, it is the effect, so what you drag here is the arithmetic your GPU runs in a match.
The controls
Four sliders and what each one does
All four work whether or not ReShade is installed, because the panel grades the preview itself. The values you settle on are what gets written to the preset.
- Vibrance -1.00 to 1.00
- Pushes color away from gray, weighted by how colorful each pixel already is. A near-gray pixel moves the most and a fully saturated one barely moves at all, so a sky can gain without every face going orange. Negative values pull the frame back toward gray. The reference point is Rec. 709 luma.
- Contrast -0.50 to 0.50
- Expands the image around mid-gray. Positive drops the darks and lifts the lights away from each other, negative flattens the two together.
- Midtones 0.50 to 2.00
- A gamma curve. It bends where the mid-tones land without moving pure black or pure white. Exactly 1.00 is skipped in the shader, so neutral is a true no-op rather than a curve that happens to be flat.
- Black level 0.00 to 0.25
- Raises the floor without touching white, so the darkest part of the frame stops being black. This is the control for seeing into a shadowed corner, and it gives back some of the punch contrast adds.
They reach the GPU in a fixed order: black level, then contrast, then midtones, then vibrance.
Presets
Four starting points, not four modes
Choose one and the sliders jump to its values. Move any slider afterwards and the row stops lighting one, which is the honest signal that the values are now your own.
Default
Everything neutral
The frame exactly as the game hands it over.
Soft
Vibrance 0.20 · Contrast 0.03 · Midtones 1.03
A nudge. Colors separate slightly and nothing else changes.
Vivid
Vibrance 0.45 · Contrast 0.07
The one most people stop on. Stronger color, a little more bite.
Bold
Vibrance 0.75 · Contrast 0.12 · Midtones 0.97 · Black level 0.01
Heavy handed on purpose, with the shadows lifted a touch so the added contrast does not crush them.
Reset is a different neutral on purpose. It lands on Vibrance 0.35 with everything else at its no-op value, because switching the feature on should visibly do something.
Vibrance balance
One weight per channel
Behind the disclosure under the sliders, the vibrance boost is split across red, green and blue. Each channel carries its own weight from 0.00 to 2.00, and all three sit at 1.00 by default, which is an even split.
Zero means that color takes none of the boost and stays exactly where it was. That is how you lift the blues on a map without dragging the reds up with them, and it is the difference between a saturation slider and a grade. The weights do nothing on their own: with Vibrance at zero there is no boost to split, and the panel says as much.
Installing ReShade
Bring your own, the app does the rest
ReShade is free and open source and it belongs to crosire. The app never bundles or hosts a copy, so the one thing you fetch yourself is the installer, and even that is mostly clicking Download and coming back.
- 1
Get ReShade from its own site
ReShade is free and open source, and it is crosire's project, not ours. The app has never bundled or hosted a copy of it. Download opens crosire's own versioned installer at reshade.me and your browser saves it wherever it normally saves things.
- 2
The app finds the file for you
It watches your Downloads folder and your Desktop for a ReShade setup and confirms it by reading the file's bytes rather than trusting its name. By the time you alt-tab back, the step has ticked itself off.
- 3
Run the setup, already aimed at the game
Install it for me starts ReShade's own installer with Marvel-Win64-Shipping.exe and the DirectX 12 proxy already chosen. Those are the two screens people get wrong, and you never see them.
- 4
Switch it on
Activate writes exactly one file inside the game folder, ReShade.ini, and points it at a shader and a preset kept under your user profile. Every slider you move after that rewrites the preset, never the game folder, which is why tuning it never asks you for anything.
- 5
Off means off
Turning the feature off renames ReShade's proxy DLL. A renamed DLL cannot win the loader search order, so ReShade never enters the game process at all: no hook, no overlay, no greeting. Turning it back on is a rename, not a reinstall.
If you already run ReShade for something else, enabling copies your ReShade.ini to a backup first and puts it back verbatim when you disable. Your presets and your shader library are not touched.
In a match, End switches the effect off instantly. The launcher cannot change anything while Marvel Rivals is running, so that key is the way to undo it mid-game.
Honest limits
What was tested, and what is not being claimed
What was tested
On our own rig, with the effect running in game, Marvel Rivals does not show its modification warning. That is the single line the app puts in the Color Correction tab, in green: "No in-game warning." It is a test result, and it is the whole of what we assert.
What is not being claimed
Nothing on this page is a statement about NetEase's rules or about anti-cheat. NetEase's published rules put third-party visual modification in the prohibited category, and a color grade sits there the same way a graphic pack does. We cannot make a promise on NetEase's behalf, so we do not make one.
How to stop it
Press End in game and the effect is off instantly. Switch the feature off in the app and ReShade's proxy DLL is renamed, so ReShade does not load into the game at all. Remove ReShade takes the files back off your disk.
Questions
Common questions
Do I need ReShade installed to use the preview?
No. The preview on this page and the one in the app both draw the effect themselves. Nothing is downloaded, no game file is read, and you can decide whether you want the look before you install anything.
Does RIVALSFPS.GG include ReShade?
No. ReShade is crosire's work, free and open source, and the app never bundles or hosts it. The Download button opens crosire's own installer at reshade.me, and reshade.me asks that people be linked to the site rather than handed the binaries, which is exactly what the app does.
How do I turn the effect off during a match?
Press End. ReShade switches the effect off instantly. The launcher cannot change anything while Marvel Rivals is running, so that key is the way to undo it mid-match.
I already use ReShade for something else. Will this overwrite it?
No. Enabling copies your existing ReShade.ini to a backup first and restores it verbatim when you disable. Your own presets and shader library are left alone, and the app's effect search path is added to yours rather than replacing it.
I installed ReShade and nothing loads. What happened?
Almost always Smart App Control. crosire signs ReShade himself rather than through a trusted authority, so Windows blocks every build while Smart App Control is on. The other case is the add-on build, which is unsigned and whose own setup warns it is meant for singleplayer games. The app detects both and tells you which one you hit. Pick the standard build; the effect works identically on it.
Does color correction cost frames?
It adds one full-screen pass after the game has finished drawing the frame. That is small next to everything the game already drew, but it is not nothing, and what it costs depends on your GPU and your resolution. If frames are what you are after, the graphic packs and the layer presets are where the real gain is.
Can this get me banned?
Nobody outside NetEase can answer that, and we will not pretend otherwise. What we can tell you is what was tested on our own rig: with the effect running, Marvel Rivals does not show its modification warning. NetEase's published rules put third-party visual modification in the prohibited category, and a color grade sits there the same way a graphic pack does. Press End, or switch the feature off in the app, if you would rather not run it.
